Counting and learning
El barquito chiquitico
The traditional song about a teeny tiny boat, for counting from 1 to 6.
Lyrics (in Spanish)
The English meaning is under each line.
Había una vez un barquito chiquitito,Once upon a time there was a teeny tiny boat, había una vez un barquito chiquitito, once upon a time there was a teeny tiny boat, que no sabía, que no sabía,that didn’t know how, that didn’t know how,que no sabía navegar.that didn’t know how to sail.
Pasaron un, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco, seis semanas,One, two, three, four, five, six weeks went by,pasaron un, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco, seis semanas, one, two, three, four, five, six weeks went by,y aquel barquito, y aquel barquito, and that little boat, and that little boat,y aquel barquito navegó.and that little boat sailed.
Y si esta historia parece corta,And if this story seems short, volveremos, volveremos a empezar.we’ll start, we’ll start all over again.

- On «y aquel barquito navegó» (“and that little boat set sail”), sail your boat through the air or across the table.
- Afterwards, fold a paper boat and float it on a tray of water, with a grown-up close by.
- Singing together:
- Count slowly and let your child say the next number.
- Good for practicing:
